Of subjects interviewed over 70% were regular users of narcotics both illegal and prescribed, of the drugs imbibed by far the most popular was cannabis or one of its derivatives, heroin accounting for less than 5% of users surveyed, comparing with society as a whole of twice the average usage. Of subjects interviewed over 60% were receiving medication for depression, either bipolar, multipolar or attempted suicide . Most interviewed had a fascination with death and suicide although only a small percentage, less than 1% had actually made attempts on their own lives but over 50% mentioned suicide, many claiming a fear of old age and loss of power and control of their own lives. I have drawn the tentative conclusion that the depression is a major cause of turning to vampirism. Over 65% of subjects were either or had in the past mutilated themselves usually with razor blades or other sharp implements to draw their own blood. Most of the subjects who admitted to self-mutilation said they wished to find a donor subject to share their fetish. 33% of self mutilators said that they did not want to mutilate others as they would lose control and cause permanent damage or death to the donor. Of the remaining donor users, most used syringes to extract blood and empty it into a vessel to drink from. Sites exist on the world wide web where syringes and other equipment can be purchased and donors obtained. The vampire cult of modern times seems to be divided straight down the middle in style. the first I will classify as the Romantic Vampire, they wish for fame. Most write dark poetry or prose and have grandiose ideas involving dark suicide pacts usually involving stylized suicide scenes of vampire and donor and blood. The others are Sexual Vampires who used blood letting to gain some sexual pleasure in a sado masochistic rite, some are stylized in a mock ceremony, others just use it to heighten sexual awareness with no particular occult significance. Most Vampires are of above average intelligence some exceedingly so but most were over achievers who had flunked from School, most would like to return to education, over half work just to survive or are unemployed. Most Vampires try to analyse their own situation and motivation usually coming to the conclusion that they are ‘normal’ and just have melancholic personalities. Some accept psychosis but are convinced that they have them under control.. So what does this say for occultism in general when faced by the modern Vampire. In my opinion, it is impossible for a modern vampire to be a Mage of any lodge because of their motivation. They will remain in the outer lodges having not the true will to gain admittance into inner orders because their fetish precludes them from the objectivity needed to be a true child of the inner lodge, unless occultism and magick comes before blood then the lodge must always firmly refuse admittance to the inner order. True vampirism and the lodge, inner order only Ignis Nox 03.03.01 Copyright 2001 Ordo Hermetica Dominus Nox |
